Sports Massage

We offer Sports Massage treatments that are designed to help reduce discomfort, speed up the healing process of injuries, or aid your performance before an event or workout in Manchester or Altrincham. This type of massage involves applying slow and firm pressure to reach deeper layers of the muscle and fascia, helping to penetrate and soften the hard, tight muscles. The techniques used in Sports Massage can also help to increase range of motion and flexibility, by increasing the length of the muscle and improving neuromuscular efficiency.

Our Sports Massage treatments are not just for athletes, but also suitable for anyone who works in physically demanding jobs, office workers, those who hold tension due to poor posture, or those who regularly exercise. It’s a common misconception that Sports Massage has to be painful, but with our skilled therapists, you can be assured that the treatment will not cause any discomfort.

Our Sports Massage therapists have an in-depth understanding of the anatomy of the body, its muscles, and the musculoskeletal system, enabling them to apply this knowledge to their treatments. We also offer customized treatment plans that combine Sports Massage with other techniques such as Myofascial Release and Myofascial Dry Cupping. Pregnancy Massage

Indulge in a special bonding time with your unborn child through Pregnancy massage, a unique massage experience that allows you to unwind and focus on yourself before giving birth. At Zero Gravity Float Spa in Altrincham, Manchester, our expert massage therapist will provide a supportive pillow for your head and under your tummy, and have you in a comfortable side-lying position to start. From there, your therapist will massage your back, neck, and shoulders before transitioning you to a semi-reclined position for the rest of the massage, where they can massage your neck, shoulders, head, arms, tummy, legs and feet.

Pregnancy massage offers an array of benefits, especially for those who experience new aches and pains as a result of their changing posture and increased weight. It’s a gentle way to soothe sore areas, improve your range of motion, and provide relief from discomfort. Additionally, pregnancy massage can help to relax your mind and body, improving your sleep quality.

As a specialised massage technique adapted specifically to pregnant women, Pregnancy massage differs from other massages. It’s important to note that the first trimester of pregnancy is a crucial time, and massage is generally not advised, especially if you have a history of miscarriages. Further restrictions may apply, and we encourage you to visit our FAQs page or get in touch with us to learn more.

Hot Stones

Hot Stones Therapy is a unique massage experience that involves using smooth, flat Basalt stones heated to a temperature of 50-55 degrees Celsius. This technique has been used for over 2000 years and is known to provide a deeply relaxing experience. During the massage, the therapist will use a combination of traditional Swedish massage techniques and the hot stones to work on key acupressure points on your body.

The heat from the stones will penetrate deep into your muscles, helping to relax and loosen them up. This can make it easier for the therapist to work on any tension or knots that you may have. Additionally, the heat from the stones can help to calm your nervous system and promote relaxation.

Hot Stones Massage is perfect for those who enjoy a warm and comforting massage experience. It can also be beneficial for those who experience muscle tension, stiffness, or soreness. While this massage technique can involve a firm pressure, it is not as intense as a Deep Tissue massage. If you’re looking for a luxurious and relaxing massage experience, Hot Stones Therapy may be just what you need.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage

This is a specific massage technique that targets the body’s ability to rejuvenate and encourage natural circulation of Lymph through the body. It is not a muscular massage as it is rhythmic and harmonious with mild stretching of the skin to decongest Lymph ducts. The techniques are light, promoting healing and toxin removal. 75% of Lymph sits below the skin above the muscle fascia.

The Lymphatic system is a vital part of our body’s ability to operate at peak performance. The system drains fluids, detoxifies and regenerates tissues, filters out toxins and helps us to maintain a healthy immune system. This massage technique helps with stagnation, bodily fatigue and inflammation.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage is effective in a large percentage of the population with chronic pain conditions, nervous system conditions, Lymphedema and Lipoedema and even post-surgery. The aim of Lymphatic drainage is to manage and maintain wellbeing, and as an added bonus it also improves skin tone and reduces the appearance of cellulite.

Aromatherapy

If you’re looking for a relaxation massage treatment that incorporates essential oils, Aromatherapy might be the perfect choice for you. This treatment focuses on the essential oil blend, which is slowly absorbed into the body through the relaxing massage, allowing your skin to receive the full benefits and health properties of the oil blend. At our Altrincham location in Manchester, we offer Aromatherapy massages that can leave you feeling deeply relaxed, energised, balanced, or uplifted, depending on your personalised oil blend.

Aromatherapy can be particularly beneficial for those who experience stress, anxiety, or depression, as well as anyone who loves beautiful scents and relaxing massages. Essential oils work wonders with the body and can help alleviate various physical symptoms. Feel free to speak with your therapist at our Altrincham, Manchester location to discuss how Aromatherapy can benefit you, and be sure to let us know of any allergies to essential oils you may have.

Compared to Aromaflexology, which is targeted at specific issues and works best as a treatment course over multiple sessions, Aromatherapy treats the body as a whole, using a lighter blend of essential oils.

Chakra Balancing

Chakra Balancing is a treatment that uses a crystal on each Chakra to balance the energy emanating from the crystal with that generated and channelled by the therapist. In this way, Chakra Balancing includes elements of both Crystal Healing and Reiki.

This treatment has many benefits working on the energy level to help benefit both physical and mental health, as once your Chakras come back in alignment and are more balanced, every system in the body has more space and energy to work better together, leaving you feeling much more relaxed and rejuvenated within yourself. It’s great for people who don’t feel right in their body and feel they need re-grounding.

This treatment is different from many others as we are working on an energy healing level, to balance and restore health and wealth. Chakra Balancing also differs from Reiki and Crystal healing (both of which deal with the body as a whole) in that it can be targeted towards specific issues.

A Chakra Balancing treatment can be 30 minutes to an hour long, and massage can be incorporated after a 30-minute treatment.

Myofascial Dry Cupping

Myofascial Dry Cupping is a popular massage technique that can benefit your overall health and well-being. It is particularly effective in treating back and neck pain, stiff muscles, anxiety, fatigue, migraines, rheumatism, and cellulite. Cupping involves placing cups on the skin, creating suction and negative pressure that can help loosen muscles and encourage blood flow while sedating the nervous system.

This technique is great for increasing blood circulation, which can provide nourishment to the muscles and skin while carrying away toxins through the lymphatic system. Additionally, cupping can reduce pain, spasms, and promote cell repair by improving blood flow. It can be easily combined with different massage styles to enhance your massage experience.

Dry Cupping is a non-invasive and relaxing technique, and it is normal to experience cupping marks that may resemble bruises after a session. These marks usually disappear within 10 days, but this can vary from person to person. Consider incorporating Myofascial Dry Cupping into your massage treatment for a holistic approach to wellness. Our spa in Altrincham, Manchester offers this technique as part of our comprehensive massage services.

Myofascial Release

Myofascial Release is a unique massage technique that focuses on stretching and loosening the fascial fibers surrounding the muscles. This dry massage is performed for the first 20 minutes of a Deep Tissue massage, without the use of oils, to allow for deep stretching and flexibility.

The fascia in your body plays an important role in holding everything together, but when it becomes tight and inflexible, it can cause discomfort and restrict movement. Myofascial Release techniques work to loosen the fascia and restore free movement, helping to correct posture and alleviate pain.

Unlike Deep Tissue massage, which targets knots in the muscles, Myofascial Release targets the fascia to promote flexibility and mobility throughout the body. When combined with other massage therapies, it can provide a comprehensive approach to relaxation and healing.

Traditional Thai Foot Massage

A holistic therapy, traditional Thai Foot Massage is still practiced in Thailand today and is a primary component to traditional Thai medicine. Using a combination of reflexology, acupressure points and massage using the thumbs, hands and wooden acupressure tool, the massage is applied to the lower legs and feet using rubbing, kneading, stretching and vibration techniques.

In a seated or supine position, the massage therapist exposes your feet and lower legs, meaning that you can remain fully clothed during this massage. Much like the practice of Acupuncture and Acupressure, the therapist presses and massages the acupressure points, helping to relieve not only discomfort from muscular pain, but also treats energetic imbalance circulating through our body’s, ensuring correct functioning of the body and mind. Pressure points are thought to be areas of ‘energy lines’ or ‘Sen lines’. By focussing on these Sen lines, we work on the reflex and pressure points on the feet, which correspond to various internal organs, through which energy, Prana, Chi and Ki flow. Blockages in these flows result in pain, illness or disease – by working along these lines blocked energy is released and functions balanced.

Traditional Thai Foot Massage is beneficial for anyone wanting to help stimulate their Lymphatic system (which helps reduce swelling and boosts the immune system), detoxify the body and speed regeneration of tissues and cells. This massage also reduces stiffness and improves flexibility in the feet and ankles. Traditional Thai Foot Massage is great on its own or incorporated as part of a full body relaxation or deep tissue massage.

Reiki

Reiki is a form of energy healing which can relieve stress, promote healing and relaxation. Your therapist will channel healing life energy to you by gently placing their hand on or just above your clothed body. This invites your body, mind and spirit into a state of restoration as the energy moves to the parts of you which need it most.

Your therapist will guide you  to drop into a state of relaxation – then you just need to lie back and do nothing as you receive this life force energy. Some people experience physical sensations as the energy moves in the body, while others may not feel it at all – either way you will still receive the full benefit and leave the treatment feeling at peace and relaxed.

As well as being beneficial for the physical body, by working with the energies of the body, a Reiki treatment can help restore the flow of energy in the body. You can receive a Reiki treatment seated or lying down, and unlike massage treatments Reiki can be performed whilst you are fully clothed, and without physical contact with your therapist. Reiki can also be combined with a massage to create a bespoke treatment for you.

Traditional Gua Sha

Gua sha (loosely translated to “scraping of the red marks”) addresses stagnant energy, called Qi or Chi, aiming to break up and move this blocked energy. Gua sha is often used for cosmetic purposes (such as reducing scars, wrinkles and cellulite) as well as clinical ones, as it’s great for anyone wanting to reduce inflammation and to help treat ailments that cause chronic pain (such as Arthritis and Fibromyalgia) or trigger muscle & joint pain/tension.

Gua sha is performed on oiled bare skin with special tools made of Jade, Horn or Ceramic, and starts with a mild pressure that is gradually increased to determine how much force you can handle. Gua sha squashes the soft tissues bringing stagnated blood and toxins to the surface (where the blood supply to the skin can carry it away more readily than if it were in the deeper layers), whilst also giving a deep tissue massage.

As a natural healing remedy, Gua sha is safe, but because it involves rubbing or scraping skin with a massage tool, capillaries near the surface of your skin may burst leading to skin marking – this normally disappears within a couple of days. When booking this treatment in, please specify whether you would like traditional, facial or cosmetic Gua sha.
